The UK’s prestigious performing arts venue National Theatre is for the first time bringing a production to Singapore early next year. The theatre company’s Olivier- and Tony Award-winning production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be staged from 29 March to 8 April 2018 at the Esplanade Theatre.

Benson Puah, chief executive officer of The Esplanade, said, “Since 2014, Esplanade has been presenting National Theatre Live screenings which have always met with a good response from Singaporeans. We are excited to bring the experience from screen to stage with this iconic production by National Theatre.”

Jointly presented by Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, The Curious Incident is also part of SRT’s 25th Anniversary and Esplanade’s 15th Anniversary celebrations this year.

We are pleased to continue working closely with (SRT) and we hope that audiences and artists will seize this opportunity to experience one of London’s West End’s best,” said Puah.

The National Theatre in London is one of the United Kingdom’s most established publicly-funded performing arts venues, alongside the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Opera House. Adapted from Mark Haddon’s best-selling book which won over 17 literary awards, The Curious Incident is on its first Asian tour with stops in Hong Kong, Singapore and Melbourne.

The book follows fifteen-year-old Christopher Boone, who has an extraordinary brain and is exceptional at math but is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. When Boone comes under suspicion for killing his neighbour’s dog, his detective work to identify the true culprit takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

Marianne Elliott, the award-winning director for the production, said, “I look forward to sharing with audiences our staging of Mark Haddon’s beautiful story of love, family and bravery in the most unlikely of environments.”

“I’m absolutely thrilled that our production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will have its premiere in Singapore next year,” she added.

Tickets for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time are available from Esplanade’s Box Office at Mezzanine Level (Tel: +65 6828 8389), the SISTIC Hotline (Tel: +65 6348 5555) and all SISITIC outlets from 20 October. More information on the production may also be found on the official website.
