Gap Inc. sales are up across all brands for Q1
Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta all reported comparable sales gains in Q1 of 2024, bringing Gap Inc.'s net income to $158 million following losses of $18 million a year ago. President and CEO of Gap Inc. Richard Dickson told WWD he "can't remember" the last time sales were up across all brands. He credits successes to linens at Gap, limited-edition drops at Athleta and overall better-quality products at Old Navy. He believes Banana Republic's increase in sales was due to the reinforcement of its classic styles. Gap Inc. said it now expects 2024 sales to be up slightly over last year, and the company's stock prices rose by 20% Thursday. {WWD/paywalled}

Golden Goose plans €100 million IPO
Golden Goose, now valued at roughly €3 billion, plans to list at least 25% of the company on the Milan stock market. The brand hopes to raise €100 million in the sale to reduce debt. The IPO follows recent highs in the stock market and will be Italy's largest since last May. CEO Silvio Campara hopes to increase net sales to €1 billion by 2029 by bolstering desirability among younger customers with personalized sneaker options among other innovations. {Bloomberg/paywalled}

Fashion trade groups are pushing back against the New York Fashion Act
The bill, which is backed by Reformation and Patagonia among other companies, would hold brands and retailers with annual sales of $100 million or more accountable for the environmental damage caused by their operations. The American Apparel and Footwear Association believes the timeline proposed by the act is not realistic. Other states have introduced similar regulations. California's bill is likely to pass this summer, while it is likely New York's will be pushed to 2025, if it's passed at all. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}
