Female-founded, With Nothing Underneath launched independently in 2017. Known as WNU, the brand was born out of the idea from former Vogue stylist and Tatler editor, Pip Durell. Get ready to fall in love with simplicity through the brand’s timeless styles.

The brand largely embodies Pip's belief that clothing needs to have a great lifespan, as well as being made ethically, from sustainable materials. So, WNU is on a mission to create beautiful wardrobe staples that are kind to the planet, and last for years without a hefty price tag.

Speaking to Pip, we asked about her ideas for the brand, and what gave her the passion to begin WNU. “My uniform everyday when I was working as an editor at Tatler was a pair of jeans and one of my Dad's shirts,” Pip explained. “Men have always had access to impeccably tailored, beautiful shirts and so I wanted to create the equivalent for women. You really can't beat a great shirt. In terms of the design, we have taken the structure of a man's shirt (even keeping the buttons on their side) and adjusted it perfectly for the female form, by dropping the shoulder a bit and adding some room in the body for busts.”

And Pip is exactly right. Often, wardrobe classics, like women’s shirts, can be extremely unflattering, boxy in their design and failing to fit around the female form. No longer should we have to turn to the wardrobe of our Dad or boyfriend to find something that is stylish and comfortable, but timeless. Offering different shirt styles for women who may prefer something a bit shorter, more fitted, comfortable around the bust, WNU has a variety of options designed to fit women of different shapes.

Made from organic linen, cotton, and recently hemp, the range is extremely lightweight, and therefore, very breathable. For those who want something comfortable to travel in, perfect for packing, and suitable for a variety of weather - look no further. Each carefully thought out piece is designed to be a wardrobe staple, one that you’ll have for years to come. For those who are experiencing hot flushes, wearing such lightweight natural fabrics is essential, and so you’ll be hard pressed to find a more comfortable addition to your wardrobe.

Shirts from WNU have been spotted on Phoebe Dynevor, Claire Foy, Cara Delevigne and Gabriella Wilde, amongst others, and the brand is fast growing. Currently, the brand is stocked online, and at Selfridges, and has a flagship store on Elizabeth Street in London.

“WNU is still a small brand, but we are aiming to lead the way for a more sustainable fashion system,” says Pip. “As a conscious consumer you don’t want clothes that lose their fit after one wash, you want to invest in stylish wardrobe staples that are good to the planet.. Sustainability is at the core of WNU and our amazing production team is constantly striving to find more innovative and sustainable ways to make our shirts.”
