Michelle Ye plays a different Jin Xiangyu in "Dragon Gate Inn"

18 Nov – It was revealed that actress Michelle Ye will be playing the role of Jin Xiangyu, a character made famous by Maggie Cheung Man-yuk and Zhou Xun, in the new television adaptation of Tsui Hark's classic "Dragon Gate Inn".

According to 21CN website, the new TV adaptation, based on the director's 1992 movie "New Dragon Gate Inn" and the 2011 remake "The Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate", which were both reboots of King Hu's 1967 film, will be directed by Choi Jing-Shing and is currently shooting in Yinchuan and Hengdian.

In this latest adaptation, Nie Yuan stars as Zhao Huai'an, a fugitive who is also a former Ming dynasty soldier. He meets the mysterious innkeeper Jin Xiangyu/Jade while he and his band of rebels are on the run from both the Eastern and Western Bureaus of the royal government.

While Maggie Cheung portrayed the character as cunning and manipulative and Zhou Xun played the role as a noble and resilient woman, Michelle stated that her version of Jade would be a little bit of both.

The 33-year-old actress expressed, "She's a very enchanting woman. Jade is heroic, but at the same time she is also a hopeless romantic. By playing her this way, the character is more dynamic compared to the original version. It's fresh."

The series, which also stars Louis Fan and John Chiang, will have 30 episodes and is scheduled to broadcast in mainland China in 2014.
