Michelle Wai stays humble despite mixed award season fortune

17 Jan - Michelle Wai's confidence wavers ahead of Hong Kong Film Awards following recent setbacks in her award season journey.

Despite previously winning four Best Actress awards for her role in "The Last Dance," Michelle faced two significant disappointments: losing the Hong Kong Film Critics' Society Award to Hedwig Tam ("Montages of A Modern Motherhood") and missing out on an Asia Film Awards (AFA) nomination.

In response to these developments, Michelle maintained a gracious attitude, acknowledging her disappointment while expressing understanding about the different judging criteria at various award ceremonies. "It doesn't mean I should win every time. But I am happy for all the winners," she stated.

When asked about the controversy surrounding the Critics Society's decision to exclude "The Last Dance" from all categories while awarding "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In" as Best Film, Michelle claimed no knowledge of the situation.

Regarding her AFA nomination snub, she expressed mild disappointment but highlighted the positive news of her co-stars' nominations: "I am a little disappointed but I am happy that [my co-stars] Michael Hui and Chu Pak Hong are nominated."

Looking ahead to the Hong Kong Film Awards, Michelle remains realistic about her chances, stating, "I will try my best. The opponents are strong every year."
