Michelin Bib Gourmand satay bee hoon returning in 2025 after April closure

The return of a beloved stall is truly a joyous occasion. Months after closing on 29 April, Shi Wei Da Satay Bee Hoon is set to reopen in Jan 2025 in Fengshan Hawker Centre!

Shi Wei Da Satay Bee Hoon’s founder, Mr Ng, has been in the hawker business for 30 years. At 76, he is still strongly passionate about his livelihood.

Throughout the years, the Bedok stall has gathered a following of loyal customers who have fallen in love with Mr Ng’s dishes and generosity. It was even awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2018, reflecting its affordable yet good-quality fare.

On 23 April, Adeline, Mr Ng’s daughter, took to Facebook to announce the unfortunate news of their closure at the end of the month. This saddened many long-time fans, who flocked to Fengshan Hawker Centre to provide support during its last days.

It’s no wonder then that their return on 5 Jan 2025 would be a much-awaited one, like a reunion with an old friend.

No prizes for guessing their speciality. Shi Wei Da’s signature Satay Bee Hoon (S$4) has been a staple for Bedok residents and foodies for years. Customers have queued for up to 45 minutes, especially during peak hours, to taste this award-winning dish.

Shi Wei Da Satay Bee Hoon - satay bee hoon

Satay bee hoon is the result of a cultural fusion between Teochew Chinese and Javanese immigrants in Singapore.

Sweet, slightly spicy, and nutty satay sauce is combined with rice vermicelli noodles and add-ins such as tau pok, kang kong, bean sprouts, and pork. Shi Wei Da once included cockles and cuttlefish in their Satay Bee Hoon but now omits them to keep prices affordable.

It’s thick, messy, and delicious. Diners praise the generous portions and fresh ingredients, from the pork slices to the vegetables.

If you want to try this delicacy, you’re not too late! Mr Ng will be ready to cook up more when Shi Wei Da Satay Bee Hoon returns to business in the new year.
