Legendary chef, Michel Roux Jr., revealed how he gets his whole family involved with cooking — and just how joyful the experience is.

Speaking at Good Housekeeping Live in partnership with Dyson on Friday, 10 November, the chef, TV star and author gave an insight into spending time with his family in the kitchen. "It's so important to share food with family — it's a moment of love," he told the audience. He stressed that meals don't have to be "elaborate" — but rather an opportunity to enjoy time spent cooking and dining together. "My 4-year-old grandson loves food," he revealed. "His eyes light up when he tries something new for the first time. It's great fun to get young people involved in the kitchen."

Later in the talk, Michel also shared how he's feeling about his iconic restaurant, Le Gavroche, shutting its doors in January 2024. "I have mixed emotions," he admitted. "It's been open 57 years next year and it's my life, so it wasn't an easy decision. Some of my kitchen porters and cleaners have grown up with me — we've worked together for 35 years."

Yet, the celebrated chef stresses this isn't the end of his passion for cooking. His involvement with luxury cruise line, Cunard, sees him regularly travel and create 'pop-up' restaurants; much to the delight of those who take part in the trips. "I enjoy every aspect of life in the kitchen," he says. "I even enjoy the washing up!"
