Michael Bloomberg Calls Donald Trump “Dangerous Demagogue”, Questions His Sanity & Competency At DNC
One of the most blistering attacks on Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention did not come from a Democrate, it came from an independent and a fellow billionaire New York businessman. In a speech, media magnate and former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg, who considered running for president himself, went after Trump from the get-go, calling him a “dangerous demagogue.”
Bloomberg has a heft when he questions Trump’s business acumen — both are A-list entrepreneurs on Forbes’ list of richest Americans but Bloomberg is far ahead at No.8 while Trump is at No.121 despite his bombastic claims of personal wealth.
“Truth be told, the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy,” Bloomberg said.
He kept undercutting Trump’s business record and skills.
“I built a business and I didn’t start it with a million-dollar check from my father,” a reference to Trump’s start in the real estate business with money from his father.
Bloomberg talked about Trump’s “well documented record of bankruptcy, thousands of lawsuits, angry stockholders, contractors who feel cheated, disillusioned customers who feel they’ve been ripped off”, leading to two of his biggest zingers of the night that had the crowd on their feet:
“Trump says he wants to run the country like he runs his business? God help us!”
“I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one.”
Bloomberg attacked Trump for manufacturing product oversees, for “gaming the visa system” to hire temporary foreign workers at low wages and hiring illegal immigrants when he wants to deport 11 million of them.
“I understand the appeal of a businessman president, but Trump’s business plan is a disaster in the making,” Bloomberg said. “He would make it harder for small businesses to compete, do great damage to our economy, threaten the retirement savings of millions of Americans, lead to greater debt and more unemployment, erode our influence around the world and make our communities less safe.”
“Trump is a risky, reckless and radical choice, and we can’t afford to make that choice.”
In the end, Bloomberg, who has appeared on Trump’s NBC series The Apprentice, went after Trump’s personality and his reality TV star background:
“I believe we need a president who a problem solver not bomb thrower… Hillary Clinton understands this is not reality television this is reality.”
“Lets select a sane, competent person with international experience, a unifier who is mature to reach out for advice.”
