This Mexican Beach Town Is One of Airbnb's Top Trending Destinations for 2025 — and It's Home to Some Seriously Blue Waters

The cold air of winter is firmly here, and it appears we're all ready to fly south for a little winter break.

Airbnb revealed its list of top places to visit in 2025, highlighting some of its top-trending destinations around the globe. It compiled its list (which is presented in no particular order) by picking out destinations that are surging in popularity with its users, for searches for groups (three or more adults), duo travelers (two travelers), and families, made in between quarter one to quarter three 2024 for stays in 2025 compared with searches made in quarter one to three for year 2024. It also factored in data of the most wish-listed cities. And in all that data, it found that people seriously loved the seaside town of Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

"For vacationers in search of a tropical destination to kickstart the New Year, Puerto Escondido offers a beautiful escape," Airbnb wrote in its list. "Situated on the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca, this beach paradise is rapidly gaining popularity as a sought-after destination for group travel, especially during the first week of January — with a notable uptick in searches in 2025 compared to last year."

As Airbnb noted, Puerto Escondido is also seeing a rise in traveler interest thanks to new flight routes by United Airlines from Houston, giving travelers the chance to "experience its beauty through a range of activities from snorkeling in the crystal clear waters to indulging in local Mezcal and Oaxacan cuisine tastings."

And just in case it wasn't clear, this beach town is also a surfer's paradise, boasting some of the most consistent swell on the planet, making it the spot to be if you're hoping to paddle out into the lineup.

Of course, Airbnb didn't leave us hanging on a booking recommendation either. Airbnb highlighted the beautiful 5 bedroom house in La Punta, an ideal getaway for groups of friends or an entire family. The home includes a gorgeous pool in the center, surrounded by patches of green grass, ideal for sunbathing. The indoor-outdoor living room also makes entertaining a (literal) breeze, while every bedroom features plush white bedding, ensuring everyone in your travel party is comfortable.

As for other spots to make the list, it also highlighted Green Bay, Wisconsin, as a must-see, where you can stay in this lakefront cottage; Palermo, Italy, and this stunning terrace apartment; and one of our personal favorites, the Hua Hin District in Thailand and this gorgeous luxury villa, which also resides in Travel + Leisure's Destination of the Year. So yes, go book it, and make it a 2025 trending double whammy of a stay.
