Merrell’s ‘Wander Wheel’ Art Installation Offers People in New York the Chance to Hike Without Leaving the City

Merrell will soon offer New York locals the chance to experience nature without having to leave the city streets.

Before month’s end, the Wolverine Worldwide-owned outdoor brand will debut its “Wander Wheel” pop-up art installation at Studio 525 in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood. Merrell described the “Wander Wheel” as a “large, interactive sculpture slowly spinning on a static base” that brings people “to diverse natural environments from around the world in each of the four hemispheres.”

More specifically, Merrell stated the visitors will be able to share “the experience and joy of urban hiking with others” through the installation’s interior, which mimics a hiking trail. And when entering the space, the brand stated people will encounter a sensory “palate cleanser,” which includes natural audio, subtle scents, a visual barrier to “prepare them mentally and physically” for the experience, and more.

From a footwear perspective, Merrell is offering people a choice of wearing its Moab Speed 2 light hiking boot while exploring the wheel. The boot is available now via Merrell.com and ranges in price from $62 for big kids’ and $190 for the men’s mid-cut waterproof version.

“Hiking is a joy that everyone can experience, no matter where they live. Merrell’s Wander Wheel is an art installation designed to evoke wonder and remind us of the good things that await when hiking,” Lindsey Lindemulder, vice president of brand marketing at Merrell, said in a statement.

Merrell’s “Wander Wheel” installation will be open on Sept. 27 from 12-6 p.m. ET, and Sept. 28-29 from 10 a.m. ET to 6 p.m. ET. It is located at 525 W 24th St.
