Savannah Trapp-Blanchfield, the eldest sibling in the World’s Tallest Family, is over six-foot-eight — but that doesn’t stop her from wearing high heels.
The Trapp family, with an average height of about six-foot-eight between three children and two parents, received the title from Guinness World Records in 2022. Hailing from Minnesota, Savannah’s brother Adam Trapp is seven-foot-three while sister Molly Steede is six-foot-six; father Scott Trapp is six-foot-eight while mother Kristine Trapp is the shortest in the family at six-foot-three. In an interview with Guinness World Records, the family detailed their experiences living — and shopping — at their above-average heights.
“God bless the drag queens,” Savannah said. “This is the only way that I have high heels that fit me, right? ‘Cause I’m a women’s size 16, men’s size 15, so I wouldn’t have these opportunities for cute shoes if it wasn’t for the drag queens, right?”
She added, “Yes, even though I’m six-eight-and-a-half, I still wear heels. And I can even throw it back in six-inch heels, I can drop it to the ground, I can dance — I can do anything in six-inch heels.”
While shoe options might be limited for women who wear a size 16, there are brands making it their mission to create a more size-inclusive footwear industry. Journee, Dolce Vita, Aldo and Vaila Shoes are among these labels.
The Trapp family also discussed the difficulty of finding clothing that fits, with pants being an issue for multiple family members. Adam brought up the growing pains he felt along his journey to seven-foot-three.
The Trapps could likely understand what it’s like to walk in the shoes of 2024 Guinness World Record holder Eric Kilburn, Jr., who was named the teenager with the largest hands and feet. His struggle to find shoes that fit went viral and Shaquille O’Neal sent him clothing and footwear.
In addition to receiving shoes from a former NBA star, there are other upsides to being tall. The Trapps participated in sports, with Savannah receiving a full scholarship to play at the college level before retiring due to concussions. Scott also thinks that they have bonded as a family through their shared tallness — not to mention, there’s no shelf he can’t reach when shopping for groceries.
