Melania's 'don't focus on my fashion' plea met with ridicule

Melania Trump has claimed her critics only focus on her wardrobe, rather than what her actions.
Last week, the 48-year-old wife of US President Donald Trump was criticised during a trip to Nairobi, Kenya in Africa for wearing a white pith helmet – which has links to the area’s history of being colonised.
Defending herself yesterday in a video broadcast from Egypt via American political publisher The Hill, Melania hit back at her critics.
She said: “I want to talk about my trip, and not what I wear. That’s very important what we do, what we’re doing with US aid, what I do with my initiatives.
“I wish people would focus on what I do, not what I wear.”

However, social media users have been quick to mock the First Lady – questioning what it is she actually does beyond grabbing headlines with her outfit choices.
One Twitter user questioned simply: “What does she do?”. One follower wrote: “You haven’t done anything except wear ridiculous outfits,” while one user added: “You do nothing but occupy space.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Melania has stepped out in a controversial look.

In June this year, Melania stepped out in a jacket emblazoned with the slogan “I really don’t care, do u?” in the heat of Trump’s family separation policy, whereby the children of immigrants were being taken away from their families at the US border.
One Twitter user suggested Melania has drawn more attention to what she ‘doesn’t do’ than what she does.

Not everyone hit against Melania, however. One gushing user praised the “gorgeous” First Lady, calling her “mesmerising to watch”. No word on what she actually does, though.
