The colour red has been having somewhat of a renaissance this season, with scarves poking out from coats giving pops of cherry shades and flashes of red-hot knitwear being stocked in high street stores.

Leaning into the red trend last night was comedian and TV presenter, Mel Giedroyc, who paired her personalised varsity-style cardigan with crimson trousers and a bright pink lip.

For an easy yet timeless red addition for your wardrobe, look to Massimo Dutti for their 100% cotton knit cardigan with buttons. Pair it with a white t-shirt, blue jeans and ballet pumps for an off-duty look, or layer it over a silk dress or a blouse and pair with gold hoops for a more elevated outfit.

You could personalise your own cardigan like Mel's, with simple iron-on letter patches, available from Amazon.

Mel was attending Stop The Shadows 2024 presented by ABLE2UK, which was held at London's eponymous Hard Rock Cafe. Also in attendance was Sophie Ellis Bexter, whose hit song, Murder on the Dancefloor, has had a comeback thanks to Emerald Fennell's film, Saltburn.

According to ABLE2UK - and organisation which campaigns for disability rights - the event was held to highlight the loneliness disabled people can experience (such as being isolated from society and being left out from group events organised by friends) and the impact this can have on their wellbeing.

‘Disabled people can feel isolated from society, even by their friends and families at times,’ said CEO of ABLE2UK, Howard Thorpe. ‘This night is so special, it’s a chance to address a subject which everyone knows goes on, but is rarely discussed so openly.’
