Mel Gibson in Talks to Join Indie ‘Every Other Weekend’

Mel Gibson is in early negotiations to star in French filmmaker Benjamin Rocher’s indie action adventure “Every Other Weekend,” TheWrap has learned.

The story centers on a father who convinces his son he’s an experienced CIA spy, but in reality works in the agency’s IT department. When family secrets are spilled during a father-son trip in Paris, the duo find themselves in an actual life-threatening adventure.

Gibson would play the role of the son’s grandfather, who in actuality is a superspy.

“Every Other Weekend” was written by Brandon and Curtis Birtell, with revisions by Davis Moreau and Tad Safran.

Peter Safran (“The Conjuring”) Clement Miserez and Jean-Charles Levy are producing “Every Other Weekend.”

Gibson is currently shooting “The Professor and the Madman” with Sean Penn and Natalie Dormer. The film, based on Simon Winchester’s best-selling nonfiction book about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary, is being produced by Icon Productions.

Gibson portrays Prof. James Murray, who in 1857 started creating the famed dictionary.

Gibson is also generating strong buzz for directing the war drama “Hacksaw Ridge,” which stars Andrew Garfield. “Hacksaw Ridge” is Gibson’s first directorial outing since directing “Apocalypto” back in 2006. Lionsgate is releasing “Hacksaw Ridge” on November 4th.

Gibson is repped by Shanahan Management and RPMedia.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Gibson’s involvement with “Every Other Weekend.”
