To date, McDonald’s has launched a variety of McFlurry ice cream dessert flavours, from the classic Oreo to mudpie, strawberry shortcake, matcha, and the list goes on. The latest addition to this list is our favourite lazy egg character, Gudetama!

Starting from 8 June till early July, people in Japan can get their hands on this mysterious Gudetama-flavoured McFlurry. As part of their marketing campaign on the first week of launch, McDonald’s refused to share what Gudetama “tastes” like and wanted customers to hazard a guess.

From the looks of it, there are two different sauces – one dark brown and the other bright yellow. On top of those are soft-looking cubes in this cup of sweet, milky goodness.

As some of you might have guessed, this new McFlurry flavour is related to eggs. The answers from the Japanese also vary: Castella, cream soufflé, pudding, cream puff, eggs Benedict, rice with raw egg, egg tart.

But, it is actually custard cake!

This new flavour is made with the image of Gudetama, pairing up custard and caramel sauces of reasonable sweetness with fluffy sponge cake for an added texture.

Selling at ¥290 (around S$3.50), the Gudetama-inspired McFlurry is also served in a special cup that comes in a total of six different designs.

In addition to the McFlurry, for kids and adults alike, you can satisfy your desire of staring at its round, yellow butt when you purchase a Happy Meal at McDonald’s Japan. There are a total of six different Gudetama toys to collect.
