May the force be with you at the upcoming Star Wars Festival

May 4th is approaching, and Star Wars fans will know what that means – Star Wars Day. The Star Wars Day: May The 4th Be With You festival will be held from 4 to 6 May at Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, as part of the local “May the 4th” celebrations and to mark the 40th anniversary of the release of “Star Wars: A New Hope”.

Here are some highlights you can expect at the three-day festival:

Star Wars Light and Music Showcase

Gardens by the Bay’s iconic Supertrees will be transformed to resemble lightsabers during the SaberTree light up, from 8pm on 4 May and from 7pm on 5-6 May.

Additionally, a 15-minute music and light show called The Garden Rhapsody: Star Wars Edition will also play twice a night, at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, on all three days. The show will be set to the Star Wars soundtrack. Visitors can also look forward to a Star Wars-themed Silent Disco on 5 and 6 May, from 9pm to 11pm.

Joining the Star Wars festival from a galaxy far, far away is hero of the Rebellion Chewbacca, and First Order dark warrior Kylo Ren. Both characters will be making their first-ever appearance in South-east Asia, and visitors can grab this opportunity to take photos with their favourite characters.

Star Wars Run Singapore 2017

Where: The Meadow

The inaugural Star Wars Run allows participants to choose between the Light side or the Dark side, and two distance categories of 4.5km and 10km. Light projections, music, photo opportunities and Star Wars-themed surprises await runners of both the Dark and Light side. Participants can also expect to rub shoulders with Chewbacca and Kylo Ren, and be dazzled by fireworks at the flag-off of both events.

An outdoor screening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will also be held at the race village, and participants can indulge in a range of Star Wars-themed activities and food. Registration for the Star Wars Run can be done online.

Star Wars All-Terrain Scout Transport

The iconic All-Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) first introduced in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” will be standing guard at the Supertree Grove throughout the entire festival. Visitors can get up close and personal with the towering replica, or head up to the OCBC Skyway to get an aerial view of the two-legged armoured walker.
