Matt Reeves officially confirmed as new 'The Batman' director

Matt Reeves has been confirmed to direct "The Batman" reports Variety.

Reeves will take on the project as both director and producer following the departure of Ben Affleck, who left in order to concentrate on his role starring as the Caped Crusader.

Commenting on the news, Reeves said, "I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen."

A release date has not been set yet for the movie.

"The Batman" will be Reeves' first comic book adaptation. The filmmaker has previously helped launch the "Cloverfield" franchise and worked on the "Planet of the Apes" series, with "War for the Planet of the Apes" set to be released this summer.
