Caviar is on the list, of course.

Though Martha Stewart spends plenty of time jetting off to glamorous destinations like Paris — most recently for the Olympics — her preferred way to travel is by car.

“When people ask, 'Where do you live?' My answer is in my car, because really and truly, I am in a car,” she told Travel + Leisure from the car, of course, in June.

The home guru and entrepreneur, who drives from her residence in Katonah, New York into Manhattan and to her home in Maine quite frequently, also noted her car is not only a means of transportation, it serves as a mobile office of sorts.

“I use it for all my telephone calls. I still communicate a lot on the telephone," she said. "It would be great if I had a driver who couldn't hear but he knows everything anyway.”

Aisle or window seat?
I prefer always sitting in the window.

How early do you arrive at the airport?

I pretty much always insist on having a greeter [at the airport.] A greeter is my big travel luxury if I am traveling commercial because that greeter facilitates a lot and makes it much, much easier. They are worth the money and I'm always traveling with other people. It makes it very exciting for all of us.

Do you have any skincare essentials while traveling?

I spray myself with Mario Badescu Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater Facial Spray. Lubrication of your skin, your hands, your face, whatever, is very important. I try not to have too much makeup on my face when traveling at night.

Do you have a go-to plane snack?

I will take homemade yogurt. If it’s a long trip I’ll take a can of caviar, some brioche.

Is there something you always have to take on a plane?

We always take playing cards on most trips. It’s so much fun to play cards.

Her preferred vehicle is a Mercedes, which has led to her new role as the brand's ambassador for the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, the very first all-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach.

But Stewart has been a long-time Mercedes loyalist, especially for big road trips. In 1961 she and her then-husband, Andrew Stewart, went on their honeymoon to Vermont in his yellow Mercedes Benz 190.

“It was a four-door sedan, beautiful tan leather interior, and we drove it up to Vermont, and he loved that car so much," she said. "We always had Mercedes. I mean, it was just like a family car.”

While the new Maybach EQS SUV may look a bit different than her classic yellow Mercedes, Stewart appreciates its beauty as well as environmental benefits. Her Chow Chow dog, Emperor Han, also approves of the Maybach and is even featured in the campaign for the car.

Speaking of her pups, they may be her favorite travel companions.

“My dogs are the best travelers. They can go on airplanes, helicopters, etc., They're travelers. They love to travel.” Stewart said, mentioning that she's currently training her new French Bulldog puppy, Luna Moona, to also be a great car buddy like her predecessors.

“She seems a little confused, but she’ll learn the manners and be a very nice traveler,” Stewart critiqued.

For trips she can’t take by car, Stewart unsurprisingly opts for an ultra-luxury experience, including a previous time she visited Paris with her daughter, grandchildren, their nanny, and a friend in 2017.

“We stayed at the Ritz and it was so pleasant, she said. "I think we had five rooms, all on the same floor. We had the pool downstairs where the children lived, and they had their little bathrobes. We were taken on tours in the kitchen. The food was delectable. It was the best hotel I’d ever been in."
