Lots of awesome things have been coming out of the D23 Expo, including the very first Avengers: Infinity War trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi. But you can’t have it all, as Mark Ruffalo a.k.a the Hulk has just shown.

Speaking to Variety at D23, the 49-year-old said:

“I want to just make one thing perfectly clear today: A standalone ‘Hulk’ movie will never happen. Universal has the rights, and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And, they don’t want to make money.”

Check out the interview below, with bonus snark from Don Cheadle a.k.a War Machine.

As Ruffalo explains in the clip, the failure of another solo Hulk movie to materialise is not for want of trying. While there have been two solo Hulk movies in the past – with Eric Bana and Edward Norton in the lead, respectively – Universal retains the rights to the character.

Look at it this way, Mark: even Sony gave in eventually and let Marvel put Spidey in the MCU, even if it did take a large-scale hack by North Korea for that to happen (plus myriad box office failures). So hope springs eternal.
