Mariel de Leon defends father over alleged "prioritised testing"

25 Mar – Mariel de Leon recently took to social media to defend her father, actor Christopher de Leon over allegations that he did not follow the COVID-19 protocols when he went for testing for the coronavirus.

As reported on Inquirer, the beauty queen, whose father's name was in the list of politicians/personalities who did not follow) COVID-19 testing protocols released by a tweeter recently, stated that the elder de Leon actually took the test only after he got sick and quarantined himself in the house.

"After it persisted, he decided to go to the doctors to take the test. Like everyone else there, he had to wait hours in line because they ran out of tests that morning/afternoon so they had to wait longer," she wrote.

The "Ang Panday" actress also stated that her father took action immediately as he was worried about infecting her mother Sandy Andolong as she is immunocompromised due to several health issues including a kidney problem.

"Also, they live with other elders including my [grandmother]. So [I don't know], maybe don't assume things without confirming first? I never read news or anything about my family because (most of the time) they don't even contact us to confirm details. So [I don't know] what they're saying," she added.

However, de Leon agreed with the notion that the government hasn't done enough and should do better.

"We all need to do better. Stay home. Stay safe. Stay clean. Stay healthy," she added.
