How to Use ~Manifesting~ to Fix Everything That Feels Broken

No matter how into astrology you are (very, I hope!), chances are that “manifesting” is something that’s on your radar. It’s like making wishes, right? Like, I’d love an S.O. (I haven’t met a stranger since March, but still!), a heap of money (Great Recession 2.0 whomst?), and a vacation (especially after being stuck inside for months). But manifesting is about more than having a laundry list of wants.

Let me actual astrologers explain: “Manifestation is essentially about asking the universe for what you want, understanding that it’s on its way, and being open to receiving it,” says Lisa Stardust, a member of our Cosmo(s) Council. Okay, so it’s a cosmic version of “I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it”—except not in a next-day-delivery way.

First, says Stardust, you have to get super granular about your ask. So if, like me, you’re looking for a partner, we can’t just whisper “I want a lover” to our rose-quartz crystals and expect boo to slide into our DMs. We have to put in some work. That could look like journaling about your ideal partner or writing a letter of intention with exactly what you want from (and for) someone. Hell, you can even break out ye olde vision board.

Next, you’ve gotta put in the request, and you have a few different options. Some are structured, like lighting a red candle during the New Moon or making offerings to a goddess (for love-related requests, Stardust says you can make an altar to Venus and present her with honey, champagne, or flowers) (yes, it’s v nice to be Venus). Some are more open-ended, like meditating regularly on whatever you’re trying to manifest.

When you petition the universe like this, you create “an energetic link between your emotional self and the physical thing you’re trying to manifest,” says Aliza Kelly, another Cosmo(s) Council member (she’s actually writing a book about manifestation right now, so trust that she knows). Another way to set up that link: Practice abundance by acting generously instead of hoarding what you have. So if you’re (also like me!) trying to manifest cold, hard cash, loan a small amount to a friend in need. It’s great karma and it also tells the stars that your bank account is ready for action.

Like going to the gym (lol, remember gyms?), manifestation works best as part of a routine, says Kelly. Light that candle every New Moon or repeat a specific ritual every weekend. Keep asking for what you want, keep believing that you’ll receive it, and it will happen…granted, usually on the universe’s timeline, not yours, but we can’t have absolutely everything.

If you're looking for...

Good Health

Take a bath with Epsom salts. As you soak, visualize your wellness goals becoming reality.

Emotional Healing

During a Full Moon, slowly untangle a tangled necklace or string. Reflect on your memories as your fingers do their thing—this will help you process your feels.

A New Job

Meditate on your career goals with a clear-quartz crystal on the New Moon. Then keep that rock in your purse—or next to your keyboard—when you have a big interview.

Money

Place a sachet of basil (it attracts good luck and cash) under your bed so that while you’re asleep, you can be messaging the universe that your bank account needs funds.

Love

Take two candles, put them on either side of a table, and light them. From the New Moon to the Full Moon, bring them closer together until they’re touching.

Friendships

Write the name of someone you admire or want to reconnect with down on paper. Put it in a cup of sugar water, then let it dry in the sunlight so your ’ship is bright and sweet.
