Crew-member ‘Crushed To Death’ On Set Of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
In more terrible news from ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’, it’s reported that a crew-member died after being crushed in a horrific on-set accident.
According to South African website IOL, 34-year-old Ricardo Cornelius was badly injured when a US Army issue Hummer fell on top of him on the film’s set in Cape Town.
He died in hospital on December 3.
It follows news that stuntwoman Olivia Jackson is to have her arm amputated after suffering horrifying injuries when a stunt on the movie, the last sequel in the game adaptation series being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, went wrong.
According to reports, the Hummer was standing on a small platform, which tilted when it was being manually rotated, causing the vehicle to fall, landing on Cornelius.
Cornelius was rushed to hospital and placed on life support, according to his wife of just one year Shafiefa.
“At the hospital, doctors said they had to take him into theatre as soon as he arrived,” she told IOL.
“His heart stopped and they were fighting for his life but managed to revive him again. The doctors said his lungs were completely flat and he was bleeding a lot.
“He was unconscious and he was already on life support. I held his hand and I told him not to leave us because we need him and he is a strong man.
“I spoke to him but the doctors said he didn’t know what was going on around him. We were with him for about an hour, then he died.”
She added that the company her husband was working for, called All Access Crew, compensated her financially, but has now stopped communicating with her.
So far there has been no comment from the movie’s producers, German production company Constantin Films, on the incident.
Western Cape police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk confirmed that an inquest into the death was opened at the time.
Stuntwoman Olivia Jackson revealed this week that she is to have her arm amputated after she ran into moving camera equipment while performing a motorbike stunt for the movie in October.
Keeping fans up to date on her condition, she detailed the horrifying injuries she sustained, including spinal damage, facial scarring and losing a thumb.
The movie, starring Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter, is due out in January, 2017.
