'Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again' is Christmas Number 1 on the Official Film Chart


Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the biggest selling film on disc and download for a fourth consecutive week and is crowned the first ever Christmas Number 1 on the Official Film Chart. It faced tough competition from The Greatest Showman which once again climbs 3 places to Number 2.

Jason Statham’s monster shark-fest The Meg, slips down one place to 3 and Christopher Robin holds fast at 4. At number 5 is the highest ranking festive favourite, Jim Carrey’s The Grinch which was recently revealed to be one of the top 5 biggest selling seasonal films on disc of all time.

The Equalizer 2 slides three places to Number 6, followed by Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Fallout which spends a fifth week in the Top 10 at 7. Ant-Man And The Wasp is at 8 and a second festive film lands at 9 as Will Ferrell helps restore Christmas spirit in Elf. Rounding off the Top 10 is Elastigirl and family in former chart topper Incredibles 2.

The Official Film Chart is unveiled each Wednesday and is the subject of a Top 10 Official Film Chart online show, published on OfficialCharts.com and available for media syndication. The show counts down the top 10 biggest selling movies on disc and download of the week.

The chart – the result of a partnership between the Official Charts Company, the British Association for Screen Entertainment and incorporating data from retailer members of the Entertainment Retailers Association – is published on OfficialCharts.com every Wednesday at noon and counts movie downloads from services including Amazon, iTunes, Sky Store, Virgin Media Store, Rakuten TV, Talk Talk TV, as well as 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD disc sales from all high street and online retailers.
