Malaysia's Sandra Lim secures top 30 spot in 73rd Miss Universe
18 Nov - In a historic moment for Malaysia, Sandra Lim, Miss Universe Malaysia 2024, has clinched a coveted spot in the Top 30 at the 73rd MISS UNIVERSE pageant, held in Arena CDMX, Mexico City on 14 November 2024.
This outstanding result is particularly historic for Malaysia, marking the nation's first Miss Universe placement in 54 years. The last Malaysian to achieve this honour was Josephine Lena Wong in 1970.
"I'm very grateful and honoured to represent Malaysia. I have always aimed for a placement and it has been my dream to make Malaysia proud. This achievement is dedicated to my country, family, friends, the incredible MUMO team, and all my amazing fans who have supported me every step of the way," expressed Sandra.
A multi-talented actress, model, and martial artist, Sandra has excelled in various fields. Her dedication and hard work have led her to numerous achievements, including earning first runner-up at an international pageant in 2022 and a National Wushu gold medal earned at just 13.
Despite her busy schedule, she has made thorough preparations for the Miss Universe competition, balancing her acting career with rigorous training. After being crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 in September, Sandra embarked on an intensive two-month preparation journey to hone her skills and perfect her stage presence.
Sandra's commitment to social causes is equally remarkable. As an advocate for underprivileged children, she works tirelessly to support access to education, particularly for abused children facing societal barriers. As an ambassador for Shelter Home For Children, Sandra actively contributes to expanding opportunities for children in need.
National Director of Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO), Eleen Yong, expressed her pride, "We are immensely proud of Sandra for her outstanding performance on the global stage. Her dedication, grace, and intelligence have brought honour to Malaysia. MUMO is committed to supporting Sandra throughout her journey, and we look forward to witnessing her continued success."
Adding to this sentiment, Ezuwan Ismail, the designer behind Sandra's national costume, shared "Sandra brought Malaysian heritage to life on stage with elegance and strength, and I couldn't be prouder. Watching her embody Princess Walinong Sari through her performance was the result of her hard work and dedication." In the National Costume segment, Sandra showcased her martial arts skills with a captivating Wushu performance, impressing the audience and judges alike.
