Making waves: 10 must-try water activities in Singapore

With Singapore’s heat getting increasingly harder to deal with, there’s no better way to cool off than with water activities! Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking to escape the heat, there’s no shortage of aquatic fun to experience in Singapore. From peaceful mangrove kayaking to adrenaline-pumping wakeboarding, here’s a rundown of the best water adventures to help you beat the heat in style.

1. Kayak Fishing with Purehybridz

Have you ever heard of fishing on a kayak? Yes, this crazy combination actually does exist and thanks to Purehybridz, it’s available on our sunny island too.

Water Activities - Kayak Fishing

This guided kayak fishing trip lets you launch from Pasir Ris Beach and pedal your way through the waters towards Pulau Ubin. If you’re wondering why I said pedal, it’s because Purehybridz uses 2-seater kayaks with foot pedals. So, instead of tiring yourself out, you can save your arm strength for the actual fishing!

During this 6-hour adventure, you’ll be taken to prime fishing spots, where you’ll have the chance to reel in a catch while enjoying the serene coastal views. You can even bring home what you’ve caught if they are non-juvenile. If you catch juvenile or breeding female fishes, Purehybridz will release them back to conserve the environment.

Attire-wise, you might want to cover up with long-sleeved UV protective wear or waterproof clothing to avoid getting sunburned or tanned. It’s also recommended to wear comfortable water shoes or UV socks so that you can pedal well.

Who knew fishing could be this exciting? Before clicking that “Book Now” button, don’t forget to check the currents and tides!

Prices for the Guided Kayak Fishing Tour along Pulau Ubin start from S$199. Click here for more details.

2. Mangrove Kayaking with Adventures by Asian Detours

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and paddle through the tranquil mangroves of Pulau Ubin. After a quick ferry ride to the island, cross the boardwalk and take a left. Walk on until you see the adventure centre (a white house) to meet your Expedition Leader.

After the briefing, collect your equipment and hop onto a double kayak with your pair or the Expedition Leader. As you go on this 4-hour tour, your guide will offer you the perfect introduction to the Pulau Ubin mangroves. As you meander through calm waters, listen to stories about the island’s history and its rich ecosystem.

While there are no crocodiles, you can expect to see lots of wildlife, from insects to birds like Kingfishers, eagles, hornbills, and more! That being said, it would be wise to wear long-sleeved tops and tights to protect yourself from insects. Do also note that you’re required to wear covered shoes.

Don’t forget to pack an extra set of clothes as you will most definitely get wet during the testing of your personal floatation devices.

Book now for a peaceful, unique way to experience a different side of one of Singapore’s last remaining kampongs.

Prices for the Mangrove Kayaking start from S$98. Click here for more details.

3. Stand-up paddleboarding with Outdoor & Adventure Learning

For those who prefer a little more freedom on the water, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) might be your thing. This activity lets you switch between standing, sitting, kneeling, or even lying down as you glide over the water.

Water Activities - Stand up paddle boarding

If you’re wanting to pick up SUP, Outdoor & Adventure Learning has you covered! Their beginner’s course takes you on an expedition at sea to explore Singapore. Upon learning the basics of balancing, manoeuvring in the water and the capsize protocol, you’ll be brought out to sea.

Outdoor & Adventure Learning also offers different routes with varying durations. So, you can pick your journey based on your fitness level and preference for which parts of Singapore you want to visit. They even have a sunset tour from Sembawang Park Beach to Seletar Island or Sungei Simpang. It’s also the shortest round trip among all the other routes.

Now, don’t be fooled by its seemingly easy appearance; SUP will work your core and legs like no other. The instructors at Outdoor & Adventure Learning get that. So, if you’re too tired to paddle, the guides can tow you along with their motorised paddle boards.

Prices for the stand-up paddleboarding journeys go as low as $70 per person. Click here for more details.

5. Aqua Spinning at The Ripple Club

Ready to take your spin class to the next level? Try an aqua spin class at The Ripple Club, where bikes are submerged in water. If you’re looking for a workout that’s both high-intensity and easy on the joints, aqua spin classes might just be your new best friend.

Water Activities - Aqua Spin

The Ripple Club offers a full-body workout that builds strength and burns fat without the strain of a traditional spin class. It might sound surprising, but at aqua spinning, the water’s resistance will torch your quads while giving your joints a break. Thanks to the water’s buoyancy which supports your body weight, there is less pressure on your knees, hips, and ankles compared to land-based exercises.

The combination of this high-intensity, low-impact workout results in a challenging yet gentle workout, also making it ideal for anyone recovering from an injury or looking to protect their joints.

Exciting, isn’t it? Whether you’re recovering from an injury or just want a fun way to keep active, aqua spin is a fantastic choice. Just remember to wear aqua shoes to keep your feet from slipping on the pedals so that you can clock in a good workout.

Click here for more information about The Ripple Club’s locations and class timings. New clients can enjoy the Ripple Trial class at S$60 for 3 sessions. Click here for more details.

Water Activities - Surfing

Carefully designed using modern technology, they have brought the thrill of ocean surfing right to Orchard. The impressive 9.34-metre pool houses a hidden reservoir that holds as much water as an Olympic-sized pool. The powerful pumps also push out water with such force that it mimics the feel of a real ocean wave.

Trifecta’s wave pool can simulate the perfect wave, offering a consistent and controlled environment to practise your surfing. This makes it ideal for beginners who want to learn the basics without the unpredictability of the sea or having to travel out.

It’s a highly personalised session where even the waves can be adjusted to be anywhere from 0.9 metres to a full 1.5 metres high. If you need, a bar can also be added across the pool for extra support.
