Law enforcement searching for the suspect in Wednesday's mass shootings in Maine will search the Androscoggin River, close to where the suspect's vehicle was found, Mike Sauschuck, Public Safety Commissioner for the Governor's Office, said at a Friday press conference.

Sauschuck said authorities don't know where the suspect, identified as Robert Card, is, or whether he's dead or alive.

He said the suspect's vehicle was found by a boat launch along the river in Lisbon, and said the Maine State Police dive team will search the river.

Sauschuck added that the suspect left a note at his residence, but he did not provide details on the note.

Eighteen people were killed and 13 were injured during the shootings, which took place at Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar and Grille, about four miles away.

The suspect was described by Governor Janet Mills as being "armed and dangerous." He remained at large Thursday afternoon, as a shelter in place issued earlier by the Maine Department of Public Safety was extended. He has been charged with multiple counts of murder.

The suspect is a Petroleum Supply Specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve, Army Spokesman Bryce Dubee tells PEOPLE.
