MaFe Takibi — just 3 hours to get S$5 restaurant-quality donburis at Lau Pa Sat Japanese stall

I’m pretty sure we all know and love the bustling Lau Pa Sat, catering to office folk and tourists alike in the heart of the CBD. Nonetheless, it’s a known fact that it isn’t host to many affordable food options, and when something’s affordable it usually isn’t the most exciting.

What if I told you that you could have the best of both of these worlds? Nestled in Lau Pa Sat, MaFe Takibi is a Japanese stall that offers up restaurant-quality donburis for only S$5!

The stall is a relatively new addition to the hawker centre, having opened just last December. It boasts a great lunchtime deal, with S$5 donburis up for grabs from 11am to 2pm on weekdays. Do note that there is only a limited number available!

The promotion is applicable to the Chicken Donburi, Dory Fish Donburi and Beef Donburi. Each bowl stars the grilled meat of your choice atop a bed of fluffy Japanese rice with an onsen egg on the side.

Topped off with cucumber slices and seaweed shreds, the donburi is then served to you with a complimentary bowl of miso soup!

With takibi in its name meaning ‘bonfire’ in Japanese, the stall also specialises in a wide variety of fire-grilled skewers. I can already imagine the smoky aroma wafting into my nostrils.

Priced affordably from S$1, some skewers you can get here include Chicken Skin (S$1), the classic Teriyaki Chicken Thigh (S$1.50) and even Angus Beef Balls (S$4).

Other noteworthy menu items also include the rustic Soba Miso (S$10.80) and Tamago Sando (S$5.90) which is only available from 10am to 11.30am.

If you don’t want to miss out on a fantastic value-for-money Japanese lunch, take this as a sign for you to grab your co-workers and dash to Mafe Takibi to get your hands on their delicious donburi!
