This year's Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and The Catholic Imagination Met Gala theme was practically made for Madonna so when it came time for the red carpet, we didn't know what to expect from the Queen of Pop.

Would she recreate her iconic "Like a Prayer" look? Would she shock us all by dressing like a sexy nun? Or would she really go for it and arrive on an actual crucifix? (Oh come on, it totally could have happened.) Sadly, she did none of the above, but she did arrive wearing a look covered with crosses, of course.

Madonna opted for an all-black Jean Paul Gaultier look featuring a dramatic ball gown skirt, a bodysuit with a sheer cutout cross down the chest, and a black veil. Channeling her '80s days, the singer wore a ton of tiny layered cross necklaces along with some rosary beads. The pièce de résistance of her ensemble, however, was a gold diamond crown made entirely of crosses that sat on top of her head.

At the risk of offending the Catholic church: YASSSSSS QUEEN, MY RELIGION IS MADONNA.

The singer also graced us all with a few twirls on the red carpet, before posing with the designer.

And making tonight even more exciting, the Queen of Pop is also reportedly performing inside tonight's Met Gala soiree. Here's to hoping we get to see some of her sure-to-be iconic numbers, but until then, we'll just be watching this on repeat:
