Mackage’s Fall Collection Expands on “Aesthetics That Protect”

Montreal-based luxury outerwear and lifestyle brand Mackage is debuting its fall 2023 shopable collection Thursday, with an expanded offering of “aesthetics that protect,” chief executive officer Tanya Golesic told WWD.

The fall 2023 collection touches on sustainability, said Golesic, and the couple in the imagery has a “passion for sustainability.”

“That is kind of the underlying reason that we thought a partnership with Andrea and Simon could be the right fit for us. A: he’s Canadian and B: they’re fully integrated into the sustainable lifestyle and we feel that we both come from a similar place in terms of our views,” Golesic said of the brand’s fall 2023 campaign faces: models Andreea Diaconu and Simon Nessman.

The collection includes fabrications ranging from hydrology leathers and shearlings to translucent ripstop materials and recycled down, which are ethically sourced and sustainable. For instance, the collection’s hero styles: the women’s Penelopa and men’s Lotte leather jackets with double shearling collar (styles noted to keep the wearer warm down to 20 degrees Celsius); the Etienne full shearling, colorful coat (available in adorable baby “air” blue and light “ceramic” yellow), or the Julieta-City cape-like down jacket. Throughout the collection, the brand also upped its ante in fashion-forward, functional wear with cashmere and wool puffers, as well as paperweight leather trenchcoats.

Speaking to fall’s inspiration, Golesic said, “Where we’re going from a product standpoint and part of our DNA, I would say that our ethos as a brand at Mackage is aesthetics that protect.”

“It means that every one of our jackets, and anything that we make, has a nod to drama. There’s something dramatic about each style that we make, but the second piece is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it’s also functional. The protection piece is key — it’s not only protection from snow or cold, but also from the elements like wind, rain; even a super lightweight down jacket that keeps you protected even when the temperatures are 60 degrees. It’s really about [being] a seasonless, luxury lifestyle brand and how we continue to play 12 months a year,” she said, noting the brand also has strong, evolving businesses across childrenswear, footwear and through its Mackage ski brand.

Across the fall collection, luxurious appeal (and feel), versatility and functionality are emphasized across men’s, women’s and unisex silhouettes, as seen through women’s elongated, belted-down coats; men’s hooded raincoats (ultra-fun in lime green); puffer and jogger pants, and form-fitting down vests.

The Mackage fall collection is available starting Thursday at the brand’s flagships, on its e-commerce and with select global luxury retail partners.
