Charleston continues to be Travel + Leisure readers' top choice for the best city in America (and understandably so), but if you are seeking tranquility and coastal views galore, consider the brand new addition to the Auberge family that opens today just 40 minutes outside of the city.

Sitting on the Kiawah River, The Dunlin Auberge Resorts Collection is nestled at the heart of the Lowcountry and is surrounded by marshlands and wildlife.

The accommodations — 72 guest rooms and suites, and 19 villas — are spread among several buildings, contributing to the feeling of serenity and exclusivity. Robert Glazier dreamed up the resort's architecture, which is inspired by classic Southern homes (yes, there are spacious porches and gabled roofs) and the resort's beautiful surroundings.

The Amanda Lindroth-designed interiors epitomize elegant Southern style. Think king-size canopy beds with gingham drapes in mint green, batik prints, wicker furnishings, honey oak floorings, and a harmonious color palette drawing on the natural elements.

“Set on Kiawah River, the location is a magical, preserved estuary with 100-year-old trees and full-on nature. In collaboration with the Auberge creative team, The Beach Company [the property's developer], and the architects, we dreamt of a place inspired by the most beloved summer houses of another era," Lindroth told T+L, describing the resort as "a timeless place for families to enjoy this untouched setting in a place created to fit into but not grab attention away from the natural beauty."

Kemper Hyers, the chief creative officer at Auberge Resorts Collection, explained that the design features "all the touches and ease you find in a beautiful riverside residence."

"Guests will discover window-front deep soaking tubs with nature views—and expansive porches perfect for enjoying an Arnold Palmer or curling up with a great book," Hyers added.

During the day, guests can lounge at the Cove, the property's 1950s-inspired riverfront beach club, where a sparkling pool, sun loungers, and private cabanas overlook the marshlands.

In addition to its five-star accommodations and amenities, the resort offers a top-notch culinary program under the direction of executive chef Michael DeCicco. Linnette's, the hotel's signature eatery, focuses on local delicacies rich in seafood options like Barrier Island oysters and tilefish. However, those craving classic Southern flavors will not be disappointed, as the property is preparing to roll out a packed calendar of culinary experiences, including whole hog BBQs and Lowcountry boils. A selection of rare whiskeys and hand-crafted cocktails is the highlight of The Dunlin's lobby bar, The Willet Room.

“The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection brings Kiawah River to life, embracing the land through one-of-a-kind experiences and programming that bring guests and the community closer to nature," Michael DeCanio, the resort's general manager, told T+L. "Guests will also have a chance to visit the Kiawah River farm and Goatery to collect their own eggs and learn more about where the food they are enjoying on property comes from."
