Louis Koo admits surprise over role as Francis Ng's son

31 Oct - "I was surprised," Louis Koo admitted, when asked about his reaction to Francis Ng asking him to play his son in the upcoming movie, "Shed Skin Papa".

As reported on Oriental Daily News, the actor, who appeared at the press conference of the said movie at the Tokyo International Film Festival with Francis recently, stated that he was perplexed at first by the offer, especially since Francis is just 12 years older than he is.

However, upon reading the script of the movie, he finally realised the reason behind the casting choice.

"Shed Skin Papa", written by Japan's own Norihiko Tsukuda, tells the story of an old man who, after having an unexplained craving for bananas, find his skin begins to shed, as with his age. Soon, he begins to look more like a brother than a father to his son.

Louis revealed that Francis asked to join him for a meal with Louis' own father just to observe their relationship and emulate it into his acting.

"When we were shooting, especially when he was playing an 80-year-old version of himself, he began to resemble my father. With his lead, I was able to immerse myself into the role," said Louis.

The movie is playing in the Competition section of the Tokyo International Film Festival.
