Los Angeles Area Emmys: NBC4 Leads With 8 Wins; KMEX, KVEA & Time Warner Cable SportsNet L.A. Follow With 5 Each

NBC4 was the big winner at the 68th annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards handed out today with eight nods. KMEX, KVEA and Time Warner Cable SportsNet L.A. followed with five wins each and KTLA5 snagged four.

NBC4’s eight wins included Live Coverage of an Unscheduled News Event for the San Bernardino Shooting, Outstanding Hard News Reporting for Joel Grover, reporter and Matthew Glasser, producer; and Outstanding Sports Reporting for Fred Roggin. Among its five wins, KMEX took Best News Special for the San Bernardino Shooting and Outstanding Editor, News for Arturo Quezada; KVEA won for Live Special Events News for Alto A La Violencia Domestica and best Informational Series among its wins. SportsNet L.A. took Best Sports Feature for Dodgers Holiday Story and best Sports Series – Programming (Live Broadcast) for Lead-Off L.A., among others.

Emmy-winning TV host Stephanie Edwards was the recipient of this year’s Los Angeles Area Governors Award, presented to her by KTLA’s Sam Rubin.

KMEX and NBC4 tied for the lead with 19 nominations apiece. KTLA and Telemundo’s KVEA were next with 10 each.

Spanning 43 categories, the hardware was doled out at the Wolf Theater at the TV Academy’s new Saban Media Center which was christened last month.
