Lizzo Does the Big Toe Sandal Trend in a Canadian Tuxedo to Dance on ‘Captain America’

Lizzo broke out one of footwear’s biggest trends to show “Captain America” some love this week.

The “Truth Hurts” singer took to Instagram on Tuesday with her friend and celebrity hairstylist Shelby Swain to twerk on a man dressed up as the superhero on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. For the wild outing, Lizzo herself modeled a double denim ensemble layered over a neon top.

The denim-on-denim style is considered a Canadian tuxedo in the fashion realm; the legend of the look originated in the 1950s when American musician Bing Crosby chose an all-jean Levi’s outfit instead of a suit at his hotel in Vancouver. Levi’s then coined the term along with a custom denim tuxedo for Crosby, according to the CR Fashion Book.

To complete the chic ensemble, the “Jerome” singer broke out another trend for the season: big toe sandals. Big-toe silhouettes became a celebrity-endorsed style in the summer of 2019 and have since continued to appear on the likes of Katy Perry, Lori Harvey and Katie Holmes amongst others. The style offers a laid-back appeal with the stability and familiarity of the 1990s, a common theme amongst “it” girl trends this season.

Lizzo’s pair, in particular, came in mule form with orange uppers and a block heel.

When it comes to Lizzo’s own style repertoire, the hit singer’s closet includes a vast variety of hit designer brands. From modeling Marc Jacobs at the Met Gala to performing on stage in Christian Siriano ball gown and custom Swarovski crystal-embellished Stuart Weitzman combat boots, her style is nothing but ordinary. The “Good As Hell” musician can also be found in campaigns for Absolut Vodka, Khloe Kardashian’s Good American brand and Urban Decay makeup.
