The little girl who dressed as Ruth Bader Ginsburg got an inspiring handwritten note back from the justice herself

For her school’s “Supehero Day,” 8-year-old Michele recently dressed up as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg,setting the world on fire with cuteness and #girlpower. To make things even more adorable, this week, Michele received a personal letter from Ginsburg herself, and it’s just as inspiring as you might think.

Michele’s RBG costume included RBG’s signature pulled-back hairstyle, giant glasses, and a copy of one of Michele’s favorite picture books, a children’s biography of RBG titled I Dissent. She picked RBG for her superhero because she “fights prejudice and injustice,” according to her mom Krista Wujek Threefoot’s Facebook post.

After Michele’s photo went viral, her family was contacted by Ginsburg’s assistant, who told them Ginsburg saw the pic and asked them for their home address, The Huffington Post reports. And then the letter arrived this week.

The handwritten note, sent on an official Supreme Court letterhead, reads: “Dear Michele: You look just like me! May you continue to thrive on reading and learning. Every good wish, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”

Michele was, of course, thrilled. “When I read it, I felt really happy because she said I looked just like her. It was really special because she wrote it by hand,” Michele told her mom, the HuffPost reports.

“I would really like to thank Justice Ginsburg for being such an inspiration to all of us, and for being so committed to fighting for equality,” Michele’s mom told the HuffPost. “This wouldn’t have gone where it has if she weren’t such an admirable person. I also want to thank her for taking the time to make a little girl really, really happy.”

The letter also included a quote from RBG highlighting the importance of reading.

“Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams, and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.”

Michele has already taken the letter to school, where her math teacher read it aloud and taught a lesson about the Supreme Court. Talk about the ultimate show-and-tell item.
