A list of upcoming & reopened hawker centres for 2023
You can’t help but feel happy and excited whenever your most-loved hawker centre has finally announced its reopening. At the same time, residents expecting a brand new food centre to open up in their vicinity also feel extremely blessed and lucky. Whatever it is, Singaporeans love to eat!
To summarise them all, here’s a list of reopened and upcoming hawker centres for 2023— time to add some reminders on your calendars!
Buangkok Hawker Centre is slated to open sometime in 2023 (no confirmed date as of now) just next to Sengkang Grand Mall, which recently opened on 6 Mar 2023. The upcoming food centre will have a total of 38 cooked food stalls and a seating capacity of 721.
Well, it looks like the residents who live near Buangkok MRT station can finally stop envying their Punggol and Sengkang neighbours.
During my secondary school days, the area of Woodleigh was so different from what it is now. In addition to its multiple clusters of brand-new BTO flats, residents can look forward to the opening of Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre, which is slated to open in the second half of 2023.
Reopened on 1 Feb 2023, Newton Food Centre was dearly missed by many during its 3-month renovation works. This food spot is popular with locals and tourists alike with its various BBQ seafood stalls, oyster omelette and other delights.
Armed with a fresh coat of paint and better ventilation, this hawker centre is back with a vengeance despite its slight price increase.
Sean Im Food Centre took a 6-month hiatus for its upgrading works. It finally swung its doors back open on 13 Mar 2023, boasting a higher ceiling and better ventilation.
Nearby office workers and bus drivers from the next-door bus interchange can finally return for the famous Hainanese curry rice, char kway teow, and Halal smashed chicken rice.
Jurong West Hawker Centre is expected to reopen to the public in the third quarter of 2023 after its closure on Aug 2020. This has been a long wait! Previously, it had a duo-concept of a wet market and a food centre.
The upcoming reopening will see it function as a full hawker centre with its 39 cooked food stalls and 580 seats spread over 2 levels.
Well, it looks like 2023 is an awesome year after all for Singapore’s bustling food scene. Hooray to more food centres!
