On holiday once, I sat near a couple in a restaurant who were, well, a bit dim and insensitive, to say the least. Both snapped fingers at waiters, shouting, 'garçon, garçon.' If you want bits that have fallen on the kitchen floor - or something much worse - in your food, that's the way to do it. Politeness, as they say, costs nothing.
