Great Outfits in Fashion History: Dolly Parton at the 1988 People's Choice Awards

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

Dolly Parton is undeniably one of the greatest country musicians of all time, and her larger-than-life fashion sense has cemented her status as a style icon as well, with her recognizable penchant for sequins and anything that sparkles.

There's nothing subtle about Parton's style (or her signature southern charm) — that's as true now as it was in 1988 at the 14th annual People's Choice Awards, when she took home two trophies in an extravagant all-white beaded gown, with cascading beaded fringe lining the bodice and lower hem, in addition to the collared neckline with jewels trickling down a sheer panel. The country music legend also went big with her accessories, adding a white fur wrap, a bedazzled clutch, open-toed pumps and pearl drop earrings to her ensemble.

From her gravity-defying blonde blowout to her pink acrylic manicure, Parton's award show glam mirrored her dress's opulence: She wore a slightly smokey eye with a pop of champagne shimmer on the lid, a wash of pink blush and a warm rosy lip.
