Life On Mars' John Simm shares update on new spin-off
Life on Mars favourite John Simm doesn't know what's going on with the reported revival.
Famed for playing time-travelling cop Sam Tyler across two series of the cult BBC procedural, it's now approaching three years since we last heard anything concrete about his reprisal of the character, alongside Philip Glenister as the maverick DCI Gene Hunt.
"There was talk of another series and all I know about that is there was a script and me and Phil Glenister read it," Simm told The One Show tonight (March 16).
"We loved it and thought it was great, so we said yes. But it seems to have gone into some development place... so we don't know."
Confirmed to be titled Lazarus, the project's existence was first unveiled by Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes co-creator Matthew Graham during lockdown, referring to it as "the final chapter" of the franchise – consisting of four or five episodes.
According to him, the action would take place in both the 1970s and '80s, but "mostly in an alternate NOW" in Manchester and London.
"We intend to get as many back (across both decades) as we can. So when you wonder who will be coming back for The Final Chapter – think Avengers Assemble," Graham teased of the cast over on social media.
Characters including Liz White's DC Annie Cartwright and Lee Ross' DCI Derek Litton were expected to return.
"We would never make another Mars unless we really had something to say and could push the envelope all over again. Finally we have something."
We're keeping our fingers and toes crossed for this one!
