Liang Ji (梁記) charging S$5.70 for 2 plates of char kway teow 6-9 Aug 2022
Back in the good old days of our local hawker culture, bringing your own eggs to get your food at a cheaper price was a norm. In conjunction with National Day 2022, Chef Dominic Neo of Liang Ji hopes to relieve those moments— he will be charging S$5.70 for two plates of char kway teow if you bring your own egg, from 6 to 9 August 2022.
Chef Dominic feels that our local hawker culture is slowly fading away, and hawkers in Singapore should do their part in preserving it. “With Covid19 still plaguing us even though it has been more than two years, our local hawkers should move forward despite the ups and downs that they are facing,” he says.
Chef Dominic has definitely had his fair share of troubles. Despite the closure of his Waterloo outlet on 30 June 2022 due to his financial issues, he managed to secure a new location at Telok Blangah with the help of his very good friend.
He believes that during this National Day period, he could allow the new generation to experience memorable moments by bringing their own egg to his stall, and in return reward them with 2 plates of char kway teow at just S$5.70 (usual price is S$10).
With this National Day promotion, he is also hoping that the older generation are able to gain back a sense of nostalgia. Chef Dominic says, “This will also remind us of our roots and where we came from,” or what he refers to in a common Chinese saying “饮水思源”.
Some of you may be asking, “What if I forget to bring an egg?” Not to worry, you would still be eligible for this promotion, and get to enjoy two plates of his delicious char kway teow. If you’re not a fan of char kway teow, you can try his Fried Oyster (S$8 for small, S$10 for medium) instead.
Head down to Liang Ji (during this National Day promotion period, and get to enjoy a plate of his char kway teow at only S$2.85 per pax (if you divide the price by two)— that’s an awesome deal if you ask me!
