Li Yuchun is the sole female mentor for "Sing! China 2020"
18 Aug – After much speculations, it was revealed that Chinese singer Li Yuchun (Chris Lee) has been selected as the final and only female mentor in the upcoming ninth season of the Zhejiang TV show, "Sing! China".
As reported on Tencent, the singer who spoke about her involvement in the said show, stated that she is in awe with the other mentors - Nicholas Tse, Li Ronghao, and Li Jiansan, who are all her seniors.
"I hesitated for a long time, but I really want to see it myself and feel it. I especially look forward to listen to various kinds of performance," she said.
It is noted that Li's involvement in the programme was - to some extent - a promise fulfilled by the show's chief director Jin Lei, who wanted the latest season to have one of China's most creative young musicians to be one of the mentors.
When asked what criteria would she be on the lookout for in this year's competition, Li stated that she would consider those with more diversified music styles.
"Music is perceptual. Maybe other people don't think it's good but I do, so I would choose it," she added.
The upcoming new season will premiere on 21 August.
Li made a name for herself after winning the 2005 Chinese singing contest, "Super Girl" and was known for her lower mezzo-soprano vocal range that was said to be a rarity among female singers in mainland China.
