Leonardo DiCaprio Says He Won’t Direct Movies

He may be one of Hollywood’s most talented, sought-after actors, but that’s not stopped Leonardo DiCaprio from declaring he’ll never direct.

With his new movie ‘The Revenant’ due out in the UK this week, the star explained his decision: “I’ve been so blessed to work with some great filmmakers, that I’m probably cursed to probably ever work as a director myself,” the 41-year-old shared.

Over the years Leo has indeed worked with some of the best in the business, so naturally he’d be prone to feeling a little inadequate in comparison. But then, most people would!

“I don’t think I would be able to compare to what I’ve seen. There are so many things that come into play when you make a movie. I really don’t know how they do it. The truth is, the one thing I regret, if anything, in my long career having worked with the likes of Alejandro [G. Inarritu] and Marty [Scorsese] is not be able to be a voyeur and stand aside and watch what they do, because I’m only concerned about what the hell I’m doing every single day.”

And from an acting stance it’s understandable how he’d be unaware about the directing processes, having been firmly in front of camera instead of behind it. But we believe he’s discrediting himself too harshly.

However, he also went on to say how much he wishes he could absorb everything he’s seen and experienced over his fruitful career: “It would have been wonderful to have someone document all the great experiences I had and learn from the decisions. That’s what you have to look for when you work with these directors. It’s these tiny little decisions that change something from being mundane.”

Maybe DiCaprio is continuing to act in the hope he’ll win that elusive Oscar one day, and there’s a chance his role in ‘The Revenant’ might be his time.

We think Leo perhaps being a little ough on himself, we wouldn’t be surprised to, one day, see him get behind the camera. But for now he seems firmly focused on acting in front of it.

‘The Revenant’ is in UK cinemas 15 January.
