Lea Salonga is supportive of the new "Aladdin"

7 Jun – Despite the mixed reaction to the Disney live-action remake of "Aladdin", Lea Salonga sees only the positive side of the movie.

As reported on Inquirer, the musical star, who lent her voice to the character Princess Jasmine in the 1992 original, recently took to Facebook to express her thoughts about the new film starring Will Smith and Mena Massoud.

She wrote, "For all that's been said about the new live action "Aladdin", even without seeing the movie, my takeaway is thus: a movie set in a fictional city in the Middle East starring all shades of brown people and making beaucoup bucks at the box office can only be a good thing."

"If this aids in changing the way we as outsiders view this part of the world and people from there, it will all have been worth it," she added.

She also sang praises for the new Princess Jasmine; Naomi Scott, as well as composer Alan Menken and songwriting duo Pasek & Paul for the new song, "Speechless" that was added to the film.

"Couldn't help but feel myself getting all up in my feelings listening to this brand new song for the live action Aladdin. I may need to test my vocal cords with," she added.
