Lawrence Ng wants daughter to be happy
23 Jun - While dads around the world happily celebrated Father's Day, actor Lawrence Ng admitted that he doesn't feel like he has done enough as a father to warrant such a day of celebration.
As reported on Tencent, the actor, whose eight-year-old daughter Hei Yee is currently living in Jilin with her grandmother, shared that Father's Day only reminds him how he has failed to be a good father.
"I am not the one raising my daughter. I only get to see her a few times every year, when we go on a family vacation or when she is in Hong Kong visiting me," he said.
Lawrence shared that while he and Hei Yee used to be so close to each other, things changed when he and wife, Shi Yangzi ended their marriage three years ago.
"Now that she is living with her grandmother, she is more attached to her. But whenever her grandmother couldn't handle her behaviour, I have to be the one scolding her. She became afraid of me because of that," he said.
As to whether Hei Yee is now used to being a child of divorce, Lawrence said that she still hasn't grasped the idea. However, he hopes that Hei Yee will be able to understand it when she is older.
"Besides, we still go on vacations together, and it makes her feel like we're still a family," he said.
When asked what he wants for his daughter, Lawrence said that the only wish he has is for his daughter to live a happy life.
