Lav Diaz's new movie to premiere at Cannes Festival

6 May – It was reported that Lav Diaz's new film, "Ang Hupa" will be making its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

As reported on Rappler, the upcoming film was selected to be part of the lineup for the non-competitive Director's Fortnight, which also marks Diaz's first time participating in the showcase.

Lead actress Shaina Magdayao recently took to Instagram to express her delight over the news, writing, "Never in my wildest dreams. This is [crazy]! The Halt/Ang Hupa - my third film with THE Lav Diaz made it to [Cannes 2019] Directors Fortnight line up this May 2019! Surreal!"

According to its official website, "Ang Hupa" is a dystopian film set in Southeast Asia in the year 2034, in which the whole region hasn't seen the sun in the last three years and in chaos under the rule of madmen, with epidemics plaguing the whole continent.

The movie co-stars Piolo Pascual, Joel Lamangan, Pinky Amador, and Hazel Orencio.
