Lady Gaga Tearfully Accepts GRAMMY for 'Shallow' Without Bradley Cooper

While the A Star Is Born actor and director was not able to attend the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday -- he was across the pond in London for the BAFTA Awards -- he won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Shallow," his duet with Lady Gaga from the film (the song also won for Best Song Written for Visual Media).
"I wish Bradley was here with me right now. He's at the BAFTAs," Gaga, who accepted the award, tearfully noted in her acceptance speech, going on to bring up the important, if heavy, themes of alcoholism and depression in the movie. "I'm so proud to be a part of a movie that addresses mental health issues. They're so important. And a lot of artists deal with that. And we gotta take care of each other."

"Shallow" was nominated for four GRAMMYs in total: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Song Written for Visual Media. The soundtrack as a whole won't be eligible until the 2020 GRAMMYs.
In addition to his big GRAMMY wins, Cooper also took home the award for Best Original Music at the 2019 BAFTA Awards on Sunday. In his acceptance speech for the honor, which he shares with both Lady Gaga and Lukas Nelson, Cooper thanked Gaga and his girlfriend, Irina Shayk.
"I got to fulfill a dream I never thought would happen," he said (via Daily Mail). "I share this with Lady Gaga tonight, the music was the heartbeat of this film."
"I also need to thank Irina for putting up with me while I was trying to make music in our basement for a year," he added.
Cooper may be a newcomer to the GRAMMYs, but this isn’t the first time their song has been honored this awards season. "Shallow" already won a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Award. It is also nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, and Cooper and Gaga will perform the track live during the show.
“I’m going to have to prepare a lot," he told ET with a laugh at the Directors Guild Awards, shortly after the duo's surprise performance during Gaga's Vegas show. "That was just to see. That was an amazing experience. But no, I want to work and, like, rehearse."
