Kym Ng has never bought a lottery ticket in her life

The Singapore actress also shared how she 'didn't have a single cent' when she lost her job as an air stewardess previously.

Money comes in, money goes out - that was how local actress Kym Ng used to manage her finances.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News for her dialect daytime drama Whatever Will Be Will Be, the 56-year-old admitted that she wasn’t good with money.

Ng said she didn't really have a concept of money, and would get scolded by others for recklessly spending money.

She shared, “About 20 to 30 years ago, I earned $4,000 to $5,000 monthly as an air stewardess but didn’t have the habit of saving money so I spent everything. I didn’t have a single cent when I lost my job.

"After I joined Mediacorp, I worked hard, didn't dare to spend, and now, only buy a luxury bag occasionally.”

The veteran actress also said that when she met her husband around that time, he advised her to use her earnings to buy a property since it would be hard for her to save, based on her personality.

This is a far cry from her character on the drama who is obsessed about money and does anything for it.

She added, “I’m a really lazy person. I won’t gamble or buy lottery ticket like [my character] in the show. I know it’s not easy to earn money and when gambling, you lose more than you win. This kind of spending is a waste and is a heartache. I rather be practical and work and earn money in an honest way.”

True to her beliefs, Ng also revealed that, surprisingly, she has never bought a lottery ticket in her life.

In the show, however, her character schemes to get her hands on a winning lottery ticket.

Ng explained that she doesn’t know how to gamble or even buy a 4D lottery ticket. And, even though she plays mahjong, she only plays it once a year with family.

“I always lose but it’s okay to lose to family,” said Ng.

But what if she were to win the lottery?

Well, the humble artiste said she’ll continue to work but will also travel, learn how to cook and paint, and go on cruises in first-class suites.

“With a family and a job, I feel I have to maintain this life. But work aside, I hope I can use the money to do the things I want to do, learn things or travel lavishly,” she shared.
