Kris Wu's appeal trial begins

27 Jul – The appeal trial for singer Kris Wu has recently begun at the Third Intermediate People's Court of Beijing.

As reported on Epoch Times, the trial was held on 25 July and was held in private according to law in order to protect the privacy of the victims.

The appeal verdict will be revealed on a later date.

It was back in November 2022 that the People's Court of Chaoyang, Beijing made a first-instance judgment on the case. Kris was sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison for rape, plus deportation; plus 1 year and 10 months in prison for the crime of "group lewdness".

The former EXO member was dissatisfied with the first-instance verdict and appealed the case. The official report stated that the Canadian embassy in China had been notified before the second trial to protect the rights and interests of the appellant. This is due to the fact that the singer holds a Canadian citizenship.
