Koung’s Wan Tan Mee relocating to Geylang East Coffeehouse soon

The heart of a food stall isn’t the location but the people who run it. After 58 years of lovely memories, Koung’s Wan Tan Mee announced earlier this year that they were closing in Dec 2023. However, a recent post on their Facebook page reveals that while their stall in 205 Sims Ave would be ceasing operations, it will move to a new location instead.

After Chinese New Year 2024, you can find them at Blk 121 Geylang East Coffeehouse.

The owner, 78-year-old Koung started out selling noodles in a pushcart on the Geylang streets. By 1964, he managed to open his own stall. Even now, Koung’s Wan Tan Mee continues to keep things traditional by cooking his char siew over an on-site charcoal oven.

His success manages to reach further than just the kopitiams. You could get his noodles packed and ready to eat at selected Cheers outlets.

It’s no surprise that there was quite a stir when regulars first heard the initial news about Koung’s Wan Tan Mee closing. However, it was almost inevitable that the day would come. Most worryingly, Koung and his aged workers have been experiencing all the issues that come at this point in life.

Rumours abounded of the brand’s fate, particularly over whether Koung was going to close and sell his recipe or relocate. Thankfully, it was the latter.

Those initially worried that they would be closing for good now only have to wait for the reopening. Should there be any further updates, do keep an eye on their Facebook page that we have linked in the business details section below.

Hopefully, Koung will have as many hands as he needs on board when he reopens. May Koung’s Wan Tan Noodles continue to share its noodles with loyal customers and new ones.
