Adamas is a fast-paced Korean mystery drama that recently dropped on Disney+. It stars Jisung (The Devil Judge, 2021), who will play two roles: the mystery novel author Ha Woo-sin and his prosecutor twin brother Song Soo-hyeon.

22 years ago, Ha Woo-sin and Song Soo-hyeon had their worlds torn apart when their beloved stepfather was murdered. Shaped by the traumatic experience, the twin brothers grew up to become a mystery novelist and a prosecutor.

Their old wounds rip open after discovering that their biological father is convicted and framed for the murder. Determined to expose the truth, the twins will use their collective skillsets to seek out the real murderer while also tracking down Adamas, a blood-covered diamond arrow that is the key to unravelling the entire conspiracy.

Seo Ji-hye from Kiss Sixth Sense (2022) will be acting as Eun Hye-soo, who secretly lends a hand to Woo-sin. Lee Soo-kyung, who acted with Kim Bum in Law School (2021), will play the local news reporter Kim Seo-hui. Heo Sung-tae, who was Jang Deok-soo in Squid Game (2021), will portray the security officer Chief Choi Tae-seong.

During an online press conference, the four actors and director Park Seung-woo talked about their experiences while filming the drama. Jisung reflected that it was “very attractive” for him as an actor to play two roles.

He explained that his roles this time were different from his previous experience of portraying seven different identities in one person in Kill Me, Heal Me (2015). He thought of the twin brothers as “very similar” and approached them as “almost the same person but with slight difference.” He said that it was “quite a challenge” to “pay attention to those nuances”.

Seo Ji-hye revealed that in Adamas, each character has their own secret, which is unveiled as the plot unfolds. When asked to use one word to describe the drama, she answered, “For me, I would say it’s onion. Because no matter how you peel and peel, more new secrets are uncovered.”

Director Park described Adamas as a “hybrid of many different genres.” It is a crime thriller that has elements of mystery and noir, and it is also action-packed. Filling up a part of the action-packed aspect is Lee Soo-kyung’s character, who has to “run a lot”.

Lee said that she “was not ready” and it was a “surprise” and a “fresh experience” for her to do so much action. Although it was not a “big-scale action”, she “didn’t know [her] character had to run so hard so many times.”

“There was one particular scene I had to run so much that it hurts so much after. And I can never forget that scene. In that running scene, it wasn’t even a short sprint. It was a long run, which is why it was so memorable,” she recalled.

Heo Sung-tae, who is known to portray villainy roles, said that his role in Adamas is “the most sophisticated character” he has ever played. Director Park added, “In the Squid Game or the other films, his characters have been very strong. But I thought, wouldn’t it be nice if I can give him a character who is not a villain.”
