I have a kiwi, I have a milkshake: McDonald's McShake Kiwi hits Japan

You know how, ever so often, you look at your friends’ Instagram feeds, find out they’re travelling, see that they’ve visited a familiar fast food chain, but the food looks so different it makes you wonder why Singapore doesn’t have that product?

Well, this is one of them. Starting April 26, McDonald’s Japan released a seasonal item on their menu called the “McShake Kiwi”, which is exactly what you’d expect had surprise star Piko-Taro decided to go with kiwis, milk, and straws instead of apples, pineapples, and stationery.

Made using ripe kiwis from the Ehime prefecture in Shikoku, Japan, the light green drink is priced at 120 yen (about. S$1.50) for a Small size, and 200 yen (about S$2.50) for a Medium. It’s available until mid-May, which leaves you with a few days to plan that impromptu trip to Japan should you want to get a taste of it.

McDonald’s Japan has previously released similar seasonal items previously, such as Hokkaido Melon flavour, Morinaga (Japan’s well-known confectionary brand) Caramel flavour, and Purple Sweet Potato flavour.

Maybe our local McDonald’s could consider bringing some of those to Singapore next time, instead of another “flavour” of shaker fries. Just remember to learn a thing or two from KFC’s Chizza heartbreak.
